The Room

In that place between wakefulness and dreams,
I found myself in the room. There were no distinguishing features.
save for the one wall covered with small index card files . They were
like the ones in libraries that list titles by author or subject in alphabetical
order. But these files , which stretched from floor to ceiling and
seemingly endlessly in either direction, had very different headings.
As I drew near the wall of files , the first to catch my attention was
one that read \”People I Have Liked\”. I opened it and began
flipping through the cards. I quickly shut it, shocked to realize that
I recognized the names written on each one.

God Has Great Morning Breath

One morning I went into my daughters room to wake her up to get ready for school. I laid my head on her chest and gave her a hug. She sighed, and her breath rolled down my face.

\”Whew! You\’ve got some serious morning breath!\” I said. She laughed and we proceeded with the morning routine.

As we headed out the door to leave, a gust of wind came up and almost blew us off the porch. In the innocence of a second grade voice, my daughter said, \”Wow mom! God\’s got great morning breath!\”

If I keep my house immaculately clean, and am envied by all for my interior decorating, but do not show love in my family — I am just another housewife.
